CEOAS Outreach Activities

Who We Are

The CEOAS youth and community outreach program aims to inspire the younger generation as to the importance of the Earth sciences and help them to envision their potential roles as students and professionals in the field.

Volunteers are a critical component of this mission, as their personal connections to the Earth sciences and experiences with higher education serve as example pathways for students to imagine their own potential future. Volunteers also bring unique knowledge about their topic and creative perspectives on how to share this expertise.

What We Do

We host outreach activities of all sorts, in a variety of locations. Groups visit us in CEOAS to tour facilities and learn more about our science and programs. We also travel to schools, clubs, field sites, festivals, and other settings. We work with our partners to determine which activities best met each group's interests, and have a set of interactive activity kits for tabling or classroom settings, or can work with volunteers to create custom activities.

We aim to make this experience valuable for each volunteer, and integrate ways to make outreach experience visible on a CV or job application, and offer small gifts of appreciation after each volunteer shift.
